Since 1963, any alterations to residential properties such as extensions, conversions, porches, driveway extensions etc. are subject to planning laws.
If the alteration to the property required planning permission, a "Certificate of Compliance" would be required to show the works completed are in line with the approved planning permission.
If the work to the property does not require planning permission, a "Certificate of Exemption" can be produced to give a professional opinion that it is exempt from planning.

So if you are selling a property, you may be asked to produce various certificates to show that any work is above board and both inline with planning regulations and building regulations.

At GetHouseSurvey.ie, we've partnered with an expert architect who has been producing certificates for over 30 years. The average turnaround time is about 1 week.
