Do I need a survey for an Apartment I am buying?
In Ireland, it is entirely the responsibility of the buyer to do their own due diligence. The vendor or estate agent do not have to disclose any know issues or defects with the property or area. Because of this, it is vital you hire a surveyor to inspect the apartment and conduct a pre purchase survey.
This survey will advise you on the condition of the property, including any structural defects and issues caused by poor maintenance or general wear and tear and will let you know it's suitability for purchase.
For apartments, the surveyor is also making sure the correct fire safety elements are in place (correct fire doors, smoke detection system etc.)
